Revver AI Smart Name
Smart Name:
AI Document Naming
What is AI Document Naming?
Smart Name is an AI agent that keeps files and folders named consistently without manual cleanup. This AI document naming agent is part of Revver AI, and it automatically renames files based on rules you define. When a document gets uploaded to Revver or a new version is created, Smart Name goes to work on it. The AI file naming agent follows your instructions to the letter on how you want the file to be renamed. This saves time, creates structure in your filenames, and makes it easier to find documents.

Automatically Rename Documents Upon Upload
Trigger AI file naming in the moments that matter. You can set Smart Name to run when a document is uploaded, a new version is created, an existing folder or file is moved to a new location, or a note is added to a file.
Smart Name also works in conjunction with other Revver AI tools. For example, when Smart Extract completes metadata extraction and a metadata field changes on a file or folder, the AI document naming agent can automatically change the filename(s) to reflect the change.
Build Document Names Your Way
With AI file naming, you can construct new filenames using dynamic variables. These include metadata, dates and times, item IDs, or a file’s original name combined with your own custom characters or hard-coded text.
Every rule has an exception. And Smart Name has an elegant solution for handling documents that don’t fit the norm. If dynamic variables can't be applied to a filename, the AI document naming agent does two things. It automatically moves that file to a designated location and alerts the right people by in-app notification or email to review it.
Preview Document Names Before You Commit
See an AI-generated example of the new name as you build your naming pattern with Smart Name. That way, you know exactly what to expect before the automation goes live.
With Smart Name, your files and folders follow the naming conventions you set, every time. So your team spends less time on manual renaming and more time on the work that counts.

FAQ
ANSWERING YOUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Still curious about automatic document naming software? Chat with us and let's answer your questions.
Where do I access Smart Name in Revver?
Make sure you have access to Revver AI and the new Automations tab in your account. Click Documents in the left menu, then select Automation near the bottom of the document actions area on the right. Open the Add Automation dropdown menu and select Smart Name under Revver AI. From there, follow the steps to create your AI file naming structure.
How long does Smart Name take to set up?
Smart Name is designed to make AI document naming quick to configure. You create a naming pattern using the details you want included in the filename, such as metadata, dates and times, item IDs, the original filename, custom characters, or fixed text. Smart Name shows you a preview of the resulting filename while you build the pattern, so you can verify your naming convention before turning the automation on.
Can Revver automatically rename files without Smart Name?
Yes. Revver Workflows can already automate file renaming as part of a larger document process. Smart Name makes that capability much easier to configure when renaming is the job you need to accomplish. Instead of building a workflow specifically to change filenames, you can create a naming convention and tell Smart Name when to apply it. Workflows remain useful when renaming is one step in a larger process involving actions such as approvals, notifications, eSignatures, or other document tasks.
What information can Smart Name use to rename a file?
Smart Name can build document names from dynamic variables such as metadata, dates and times, item IDs, and the file's original name. You can combine those variables with custom characters or fixed text to create naming conventions that complement the way your organization works. For example, a naming pattern could combine a document type, client name, date, and other metadata into consistent filenames.
When does Smart Name automatically rename a document?
Smart Name can run when several events occur in Revver. You might trigger it when a file is uploaded, a new version is created, an existing file or folder is moved, or a note is added. It can also respond when metadata changes. Smart Extract AI could capture new metadata from a document, and Smart Name would then use that information to update the filename automatically.
What happens if Smart Name can't apply the naming convention?
If Smart Name can't apply the dynamic variables required by your naming pattern, it can move the document to a designated folder for review and notify the appropriate people by email or an in-app message. That gives your team a way to handle exceptions without allowing documents that don't fit the naming rule to slip through the cracks.
Can I preview filenames before Smart Name starts renaming documents?
Yes. Smart Name generates an example filename as you build your naming pattern, allowing you to see how the finished names will look before the automation goes live. You can adjust the variables, text, and other elements of your naming convention until the preview produces the structure you want. Once activated, Smart Name applies that convention consistently to the documents that meet your rules.
What is the difference between Smart Name and other Revver AI agents?
Smart Name has one specific job: automatically renaming files and folders according to the naming conventions you create. It does not classify documents, summarize them, extract metadata from them, or determine where they should be filed. Smart Classification helps identify what type of document something is, Smart Summary condenses each document’s contents, Smart Extract AI captures information from the document as metadata, and Smart Filing uses metadata to move documents to the appropriate folder. Smart Name can use that information to give the document a consistent, meaningful name.
